Regarding "....the studies of Dr. Abernethy and of Dr. Pimentel (and the) ....graph of USA -- One Billion in 2075 is revealing and frightening. The USA population growth rate is much too large due to unchecked immigration. The poorly recorded data about illegal immigration hide a forthcoming catastrophe."

CENSUS BUREAU POPULATION NUMBERS ARE "DISINFORMATION" ENVIRONMENTAL
GROUP SAYS

Dr. Virginia Abernethy, Vanderbilt University

Board Chairman, Population Environment Balance, Reports Findings.

Dr. David Pimentel, Professor at Cornell University and

Ms. Kathy McKee, Founder and Chairman of Arizona Prop 200

To critique Study.

A new Report from Population Environment BALANCE asserts that the Census Bureau underestimates U.S. population numbers and growth rates. The CB minimizes the numerical impact of newcomers, a distortion that sooths, and may be intended to sooth, a public that is becoming increasingly agitated about mass immigration.

  • The Census Bureau suggests that the US population will reach 300 million this month. The BALANCE Report, however, claims that the 300 million benchmark was probably passed six years ago.

  • The present U.S. population is approximately 327 million and growing at an accelerating rate.

  • The population grows by 4.7 million to 5.7 million persons annually.

  • The rate of growth is 1.4 to 1.7 percent annually [compared. to 1.2 percent annual growth in the 1990s].

  • At 1.4 percent annual growth, the population is on track to double in 50 years. At 1.7 percent annual growth, the doubling time is 41 years.

  • If the rate of growth were to continue, the US population would fly past the 1 billion mark before the end of this century.

  • The trend could be derailed by stopping mass immigration because, at present, immigration and the children of recent immigrants account for nearly 90 percent of annual growth.

  • Legal as well as illegal numbers must be addressed because legal immigrants act as magnets for friends and relatives to come illegally. Once here, illegal aliens find safe harbor within the legal community.

Population Environment BALANCE proposes a temporary moratorium of zero
net immigration. A moratorium would provide a breathing space that allowed a national debate to focus on the best interests of all Americans.
