- Intense Pressure to Grant Amnesty to
All Illegal Aliens in the United States -
Key Members of Congress, the Bush Administration, and the AFL-CIO are
increasing the pressure to pass a Massive Illegal Alien Amnesty this
month!
An amnesty would mean giving permanent residence status to not just a
few hundred thousand, not just a few million, but up to 13 million
illegal aliens, according to new estimates. This number
amounts to one-third of the U.S.A.’s population growth for all of the
1990s. U.S. population already
will soar to 500 million by 2050 or sooner, IF current trends of
fertility and immigration continue.
A long-time supporter of blanket amnesties, Rep. Gutierrez (D-IL)
introduced H.R. 500, which would grant permanent residence status to
all illegal aliens in the U.S. The only ostensible qualification –
that anyone who arrived in the U.S. by February 6, 2001, would be allowed
to apply for legal residency after five years – is really not meaningful.
Those amnestied and, potentially, many of their relatives would eventually
become legal residents.

AFL-CIO Abandons American Workers
In a self-serving attempt to increase membership and
total union dues, the AFL-CIO’s leaders have called for a sweeping amnesty
of all illegal aliens in the U.S. The group has ignored desperate pleas
that their misguided position would displace low-income workers and
further depress wages. Just consider the following:
Unemployment is at its highest level (4.5 percent) since
October 1998, and is expected to rise to 5.3 percent in the first quarter
of next year.
From 1973 to 1998, the wages of production and nonsupervisory
jobs (80 percent of the workforce), actually declined by 6 percent,
from $13.61 to $12.77 an hour, representing a much greater decrease in
purchasing power for our struggling middle class and working poor.
Amnesty Could Increase Public Health Risk
Since illegal aliens are less likely to have gone through
normal health screenings (legal immigrants are screened at consulates), an
amnesty could legalize a number of persons who are at high risk for
infectious diseases such as tuberculosis. The Center for Disease Control
reported as recently as December 2000, that "the number of TB cases
among the foreign-born is five times higher than it is among the
native-born Americans." TB is just one of several infectious diseases
that pose a great health risk, having been all but eradicated in the
United States before being reintroduced through immigration from countries
where TB is prevalent.
Bush Action would Reward Hundreds of Thousands of
Illegal Aliens
President Bush recently urged lawmakers to extend section 245i, a
"legal loophole" that allows illegal aliens to stay in the
United States, if they are sponsored by a close relative or a current
employer, while they apply for legal residence. In his early May letter
to Congressional leaders, Bush stated that this issue "should be
addressed to ensure a more orderly, legal, and humane migration flow
between our countries.." and "..encourages family
reunification." What about the negative effect on American
families? An amnesty would reward lawbreakers, depress wages of
American workers, and hurt American families by increasing the tax burden
to pay for social services for illegal immigrants and their
descendants.
Hidden Amnesty Threat
There is a threat that Bush’s Mexico working group (with Attorney
General Ashcroft and Secretary of State Powell), currently engaged in
negotiations with Mexico, could de facto legitimize an amnesty. The
impending Guestworker Bill increasingly appears to be the likely vehicle
to which a Massive Amnesty could get attached. It appears Special
Interests are wielding their Big Money influence to pass an amnesty for
their own profit.
This Amnesty Threat Can and Must be Stopped
by Massive Grassroots Action
All who understand the damaging effects of mass immigration-generated
population growth (How many more blackouts can Californians tolerate?)
understand the negative effects of an amnesty of up to 13 million illegal
aliens. Contact your Members of Congress with the simple, forceful, and
effective message – We Need an Immigration Moratorium, NOT an
Amnesty. Critically important is that BALANCE have more voices, more
people calling, faxing, and emailing their legislators NOW! (See #3
